Term 4 2019 Newsletter

Ni hao Parents!

On behalf of the Mandarin Stars franchisees and teaching team, we would like to say a very big 谢谢 (xiè xiè) to all our students and families for allowing us to be part of your child’s learning journey.

It has been a pleasure to teach so many students in our Melbourne, Perth and Sydney classes and we look forward to seeing everyone again in 2020.

WELL DONE TO OUR YCT LEVELS 1-3 & HSK TEST TAKERS!

In both Melbourne and Sydney we have 30 students take a variety of YCT and HSK examinations. These tests are external and are an opportunity for students to receive a record of achievement in their success over the years at learning Mandarin. We are so proud of our students’ commitment, dedication and success in learning Mandarin over the years with Mandarin Stars and wish them all the best as they await their results.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CHINESE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENTS!

I am proud to announce that 4 of our Mandarin students are proud recipients of The Chinese Language Teacher’s Association (NSW) Achievement Award in learning Chinese.

Certificates for our amazing students!

These students were nominated by our teachers for the award in recognition of their dedication, efforts and persistence in learning Mandarin Chinese! Well done to them!

WHY IS LANGUAGE IMPORTANT TO CULTURE?

Language is an important part of our lives. It is a uniquely human gift which lets us communicate and differentiates us from primates. But language is much more than just a means of communication. It is also an inseparable part of our culture. While there is still some debate whether the particular language influences people’s thought process or it is indeed people’s culture that influences the language, there is no doubt that language and culture are closely connected.

Noam Chomsky, one of the most well known linguists in the world, argues that all languages are dialects of one language, which is the human language. He says that even though they appear very different, they are in fact very similar. Nevertheless, different cultures have a predominant fashion in which they use their language and they have differences which cannot be underestimated.
