Get to know Susan Laoshi – Our New Mandarin Stars Franchisee for Canning Vale!
We’re so excited to welcome Susan Laoshi as the newest franchisee in our Mandarin Stars family! With a heart for education and a passion for creating joyful Mandarin learning experiences, Susan is excited to bring our immersive programs to families in Canning Vale, Shelley, Lynwood, and Piara Waters.
Her Journey with Mandarin Stars
Susan began her Mandarin Stars journey as a casual teacher while balancing a full-time job. Even with a packed schedule, she found herself looking forward to Friday and Saturday classes — drawn in by the vibrant energy of the children, the creativity of the curriculum, and the supportive community.
Why She Became a Franchisee
Susan felt inspired to take the next step as a franchisee because she truly believes in the Mandarin Stars philosophy and the impact language learning can have on a child’s future. She’s incredibly excited to bring high-quality, engaging Mandarin classes to more families and help build a connected, culturally rich learning community.
A Creative and Caring Teaching Style
Susan is all about helping children find their voice in Mandarin — literally! In her classes, each child is encouraged to repeat new words or phrases at least three times to help build confidence and memory. She loves watching her students light up with pride when they’re able to use Mandarin at home, often after just a few sessions.
Why Mandarin Stars?
What makes Mandarin Stars special for Susan is how it blends structure with creativity. Through storytelling, craft, music, and games, children enjoy a fully immersive experience rooted in the 3Ps: Playful, Practical, and Proud. The program is thoughtfully tailored for different age groups, and with regular training and support, Susan feels confident in offering the best learning experience for every student.
What Families Can Expect
Families can expect a warm, safe, and inspiring environment where children are encouraged to shine. Susan values open and consistent communication with parents and takes time to understand each child’s unique learning style. Her goal is not only to teach Mandarin, but also to create a strong foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
Life at Home
Susan lives with her husband, Oskar, who is originally from Germany, and together they are raising two young daughters in a multilingual household. With Mandarin, German, and English spoken at home, language and cultural heritage are a big part of their family life. Susan’s eldest daughter has had a strong Mandarin foundation from a young age, and the family has spent many hours reading Tang poetry and making memories through language.
When not teaching, Susan enjoys cooking traditional dishes from her hometown in Xinjiang, China — including handmade noodles and her famous big plate chicken! She also plays piano with her daughter daily, embracing the ups and downs of parenting with patience and love.
As Susan shares:
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
We’re so excited for the families of Canning Vale, Shelley, Lynwood, and Piara Waters to experience the energy, care and creativity that Susan brings to every class. Welcome aboard, Susan Laoshi!
