Mandarin Stars Perth Head Office Officially Approved as a Chinese Test Centre

We are thrilled to share a major milestone for our community — Mandarin Stars Perth Head Office has officially been approved by CTI (Chinese Testing International) as one of Perth’s recognised Chinese Test Centres for the YCT (Youth Chinese Test) and HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test).

This recognition is a wonderful achievement for our team and reflects the high standards of teaching, passion, and dedication that have been at the heart of Mandarin Stars for more than 17 years.

The Mandarin Stars Learning Journey and How It Connects to YCT & HSK

At Mandarin Stars, our child-centric, immersion-based learning approach nurtures language skills step by step — from playful early immersion to more structured reading and writing in later stages.

Our program builds:

• Strong listening comprehension
• Clear and confident speaking
• Recognition of high-frequency vocabulary
• Reading and writing foundations (for older learners)
• Cultural understanding

These skills form the solid foundation needed for children to progress naturally towards YCT (for young learners) and eventually HSK (for older students and adults).

Whether or not families choose to pursue formal testing, the journey itself supports long-term language development, confidence, and pride — all key elements of our Playful, Practical, Proud (3P) approach.

What Are YCT and HSK?

YCT — Youth Chinese Test

The YCT is an international Mandarin proficiency test designed specifically for children aged 6–14.
It assesses their ability to use everyday Chinese and is divided into levels:

• YCT 1–4 (Written Tests): Measures vocabulary and sentence usage appropriate for primary-aged learners.
• YCT Speaking (Beginner and Intermediate): Assesses oral communication skills.

The YCT is a fantastic way to:

• Celebrate progress
• Build confidence
• Set learning goals
• Provide students with an official record of their language ability

HSK — Chinese Proficiency Test

The HSK is the global standardised test for Mandarin proficiency for older learners (age 15 and above) and adults.

The HSK is recognised by:

• Schools and universities
• Scholarship programs
• Cultural exchange organisations
• Employers worldwide

It’s an excellent long-term goal for students who continue their Mandarin studies into their teenage years.
